A PINCH OF “PROUST” – A CUP OF JOE WITH OUR GRAB & GO CREW

A Pinch of ‘Proust’ is back! We are so happy to be relaunching our fun interview style, this time with our amazing Grab & Go baristas! If you’re not familiar with this interview series, here is a quick recap! Last year, we were so inspired by the iconic French writer, Marcel Proust’s, interview technique that we helped ourselves recreating this distinctive style with some of his questions and some of our very own. His quirky yet raw interview strategy in the back pages of Vanity Fair magazine has become a true iconic movement in the modern world of journalism. They say this list of questions reveals the tastes and aspirations of the taker and give a true representation of a person.

So we thought, there’s no better way to discover the kooky characters we have behind the scenes in A&D! This month we sat down for a cup of joe with our incredible barista Liam.

Whether you are a regular at Grab & Go or you have just visited us once or twice, you were likely greeted by a friendly, warm and very tall fellow named Liam. If you feel like you’ve seen Liam before but you can’t place where you have met him, you may have seen one of Liam’s incredible performances as an actor with the Cayman Drama Society at The Prospect Playhouse! Read on to learn more about the guy who makes some of the best coffee in Grand Cayman!

A&D: What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Liam:  My idea of perfect happiness is having my family and friends around me and knowing that everybody is happy, healthy and all together. There is nothing that makes me happier.

A&D: Who is your ultimate hero?
Liam:  I am lucky enough to have my ultimate hero already in my life. My MOM. She inspires me every day! I could not ask for a better role model, mentor or best friend to look up to.

A&D: What is your greatest extravagance?
Liam: My greatest extravagance is definitely travel. I believe that the memories you make are far more valuable than any item you can buy.

A&D: Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Liam: Being born and raised in Canada, I have been told that from time to time I can use the phrase “buddy” too much when referring to another person. Also, I cannot say “sorry” properly.

A&D: What talent do you have that people may not know about?
Liam: I have a real passion for acting and performing. I plan to attend school to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts to learn all I can about what I love to do.

A&D: Which talent would you most like to have?
Liam: If I could have any talent, I would want to play every and all instruments that exist. I feel like it would be amazing to just pick up any instrument and play any song you wanted.

A&D: What is currently in your refrigerator?
Liam: When you’re on the go a lot, you have to make sure you are fueling your body properly. In my fridge you will find a nice mixture of good healthy foods like fruits and veggies but also some treats for those really long days.

A&D: What is one of your fondest memories?
Liam: My fondest memory is a couple years ago I went on a trip to south Africa with my family. It was the most incredible experience and we created so many memories together that we will never forget. It was a trip of a lifetime and I love that we got to share those memories as a family.

A&D: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Liam: One thing I am most proud of happened when I was in high school and was accepted through audition as one of 16 students from across Canada and the United States to attend the Strafford Shakespeare school in Ontario. I learned so much and value that opportunity more than anything.

A&D: If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?
Liam: I would like to come back as a bird. One that could fly, of course, so I could travel where I wanted when I wanted.

A&D: Where would you most like to live?
Liam: I would love to try living in Thailand. It’s so different than any other place on earth. The food is great, the people are friendly and laid back and I would love to experience their culture.

A&D: What is your most treasured possession?
Liam: My family loves to take pictures from the places we see and the things we do. The best photos get framed in black and white and hung on the wall almost like a collage. I will always have those photos to look back on all the amazing things and memories we have. It’s a great reminder of how lucky we are.

A&D: What is your most marked characteristic?
Liam: I think my most marked characteristic is honesty. I will always be truthful and I strive to be somebody you can trust.

A&D: What is your favourite thing to eat? To drink?
Liam: I love to eat foods from other countries!! Not much of a plain eater. If I had to pick one thing it would be the homemade perogies my mom makes at Christmas time. Nothing better!

A&D: What character trait do you value most in others?
Liam: The character trait I most value would have to be humility, as it embodies many admirable traits. Humble people are modest, classy and considerate which makes them the right people to have around you.

A&D: What is your motto?
Liam: I don’t really have a motto or live by one specific motto. I would say I feel like one of the most important things in life is to do what makes you happy. Life is way too short to be miserable. Do what you love!
