FOOD HAPPINESS – FEED YOUR SOUL!

In light of our new, mouth-watering menu that was launched this week we really couldn’t think of a better time to really express our love for all things yummy! Here at Anchor & Den our foodie philosophy goes beyond simply eating. We are true believers of food happiness – let us share with you some food for thought.
When you look at the scientific components behind food, the term ‘food happiness’ really makes sense. Some foods are made of compounds that have been shown to have an effect on our mood. So, for example have you ever had an experience where you taste a bite of food and you instantly feel like, “O my god, this is unbelievably good, I never want this to end”. That whole experience around this delicious moment will be remembered because the pure joy you felt when consuming it. This is the ulimate definition of food happiness!
Also, did you know that going without certain foods can have a complete opposite effect, putting us at a higher risk for depression. Food sadness, Crazy, right?!
Food is a wonderful thing and not because, as you know, you need it for survival but because we use food to create sufficient moments in our lives. We celebrate by eating; we welcome people into our lives by eating and inviting them to share a meal with us. We begin new relationships often over meals and drinks. When we are mourning, people will bring us meals to express their love and compassion.
To quote the wise George Bernard Shaw – “There is no sincerer love than the love of food,” and boy is he right. Virtually every culture on the planet has their own stories and traditions when it comes to cuisine. Food can be very deeply meaningful – culturally and personally to alot of people. There are so many reasons why an individual can relate to a certain dish. Our comfort foods map who are, where we come from, and what happened to us along the way.
Here at Anchor & Den we embrace the diverse culture we have, with over 30 nationalities under one roof. Factor in that every single one of us are huge foodies and you can see why our menu is so unique.
Here are the top 5 foodie rules that we live by (and if you are a true culinary lover as well we know you will feel the same!)
1. We are what we eat – mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
2. We love both the simplicity and complexity of food and drink
3. We appreciate and educate ourselves on where our food comes from, how it’s prepared, preserved and planted.
4. We are curious to explore and try new things
5. We understand and embrace what goes into a recipe
